Mini Live Editor - Update v1.2 - Dynamic Refreshments

Nope this project’s not dead … here is update v1.2… (and if you have no idea what Mini Live Editor is, please check out the first post here).

Where can I get it?

You can grab the latest version of Mini Live Editor from these links:

What’s New in v1.2:

  • +Dynamic refreshing Instead of refreshing every second (causing bugs and useless memory usage), the preview window now updates every time you stop typing.
  • +Tag inserts are now available; instead of having to type out things like hyperlinks, you van use input forms which reduce the change of syntax errors.

Simple Break Manager - Update v1.2

Yes, I’m not bluffing, there is actually an update for something I’ve made. It has been a while in the pipeline, but here is update v1.2… (and if you have no idea what SBM is, check out the first post here)

Where can I get it?

You can grab the latest version of Simple Break Manager from these links:

What’s New in v1.2:

  • An automatic update checking system
  • (So now you know when there is a new version of the app just by running the app….um but still check out my blog once in a while… xD
  • More info and connectivity (I’ve added an author page which has links to my stuff and also there is a feedback form link so I can get your input)
  • Files moved behind the curtain (files like that setting.dat and the new v.txt (handling the update checking) have been moved to appdata so less clutter is scattered about)
  • Time Periods saved from last session (now SBM will save your previous time periods if you are a person who just uses 45/15 mins every time like me)

What does the future hold for SBM?

I’ll keep updating it as long as people keep using it, I’ll always reply to user suggestions at my feedback form so please do feel free to ask/request anything.

A tiny tool for start-up web developers

Last week I had to design and make a full 10 page website for my University course. Given my nature for wanting to hand code everything from scratch, I cracked open Notepad++ (free text editor better then MS Notepad) and got to work. One of the annoyances that I faced is the monotonous task of checking how the recently typed lines of code affected the webpage. You had to save, switch to/open a browser and hit refresh. Now I know that doesn’t sound like much but imagine doing that 100 times over in one session of coding, it all adds up.

There is however a better way…

It would be great if you could change the code and instantly see the changes that are happening live. Well there are programs out there that offer that and much more, for instance Adobe’s Dreamweaver is awesome, offering alot of tools at your disposal but the latest version (as of this post) Dreamweaver Cs5.5 costs upwards from $399. But what if you wanted to hand code something, using an application that was quick, easy and simple. Enter my quick tool….

Mini Live Updater

You write code in one window and instantly see the results in the other. You can modify the automatic refresh rate or turn it off completely(As of v1.2 update refreshing is now dynamically handled). As the editor and the preview windows are on separate pages, you can have the website on another screen which is rather handy. It features file-system support, can be run from anywhere and has an automatic update checking system on start-up.

Later it will feature the functions of the application below, which I originally intended to release on it’s own. I have lots more to add to this program, so please give me feedback so I can make this program work best for you. :D

HTML Squash

Ever looked at the source code of a big website and noticed how messy it looked, well this is a low-level form of obfuscation (to make code hard to read). The easiest way to do this is to remove all of the tabs and carriage returns, which effectively convert the nice neat code into one long line. Quick and easy and exported into a new file for upload. This saves space on large websites and makes it that little bit harder for people to decipher your code.

I’m Chopping it in Half

Ok, after thinking long and hard about it, I have decided that, an App-a-month is not sensible. (No matter how nice it sounds)

Instead I’ll be releasing six applications this year.

Advantages:

  1. Greater development time per program
  2. Less pressure/rushing to balance my work, this Blog and programming
  3. More content updates and public beta cycles
  4. Better quality epic applications!

Quality, not quantity…

The New Development Cycle

So here is my NEW dev plan, which will hopefully improve my productivity and better the quality of content that I produce.

Let’s Get Physical!

Ok here we go, program number one for 2012.

My first program that I’ll be releasing in the New Year aims to reduce Repetitive Strain Injury, which is a condition that affects the eyes, hands and legs of gamers and computer users, who spend a long periods of time in the same position. When you expose your body to RSI many times, it can have serious implications on your health later on in life.

It will hopefully help many people by prompting them to take breaks away from the screen, where they can rest their limbs and reduce the risk of RSI. It will have other features and information such as diagrams of wrist exercises and general information on what RSI actually is.

Taking regular breaks have been known to improve productivity as well. (Partly why I am making this is so that my personal productivity increases as well :P (Pro Tip: Make programs that you yourself find useful))

No screenshots as yet but I should have some ready by next blog post on Friday 30th December 2011. (Last one of this year) where I will also provide some more information what other features the program has.

Also these Friday posts are planned, I may blog between them on other stuff depending on time.

Hope you have a merry holiday :D

SmarterThanU development Update

Ok people, I have completed the basic functions of SmarterThanU.

If you don’t remember, this program works like the game 20Q but you get to start your own tree of information.

A feature that I didn’t anticipate is multiplayer. I put the files on my Dropbox which I share with my friends and realised that you could have multiple people working on the same database, it was a tad slow over Dropbox but this means that it could be run on a networked server, and the more people playing the database, the faster it will grow. =D

Please note that i have not included all of the features for each program, i tried to keep each limited to a word count so it wouldn’t be too much to read, enjoy :D

Aos Chatbox

USB Back-Up

Production Logger

Smarter than you
